Now I know this is not travel related but it’s worth sharing:

Or maybe not…And when was the last time College Humor came upstate to Poughkeepsie? If you guys could do a show at Marist College that would be AWESOME.

I know this has nothing to do with travel but I thought I would post it seeing as how I’m a giant loser and I have posted anything in FOREVER. Blame school.

Hippie Bus in the Woodstock Museum

Hippie Bus in the Woodstock Museum

Hey Hey LBJ….yea no

So anyone who knows me will know about my deep undying hate for hippies. Liberal, environmental bastards….anyways I tried not to let this affect me at Woodstock and it didn’t…for the most part. So on Sunday, August 16th my aunt, my friend Katherine, and I took the hour car ride to Bethel, New York. The ACTUAL site of the Woodstock Festival. NOT Woodstock, New York. It’s a long story. As soon as we got there we were ambushed by some stray hippie dog that I assumed came from one of the hippie camps we passed on the way there. Seriously people were camping on the side of the thru-way. Unsanitary to say the least. Anyways of course my aunt started freaking out, which was mildly amusing we walk up to the line to get our tickets and are greeted by a woman (yes a hippie woman but I didn’t want to just call her a hippie) complaining  to one of the guards about how there should be a dog watching service at the museum. And all I could think was yea, cause lots of museums have those <——sarcasm. The dog we met in the beginning took a liking to us for some reason and followed us all the way up to the line. We thought the dog left as soon as we got into the museum but he followed us in, much to the chagrin of the customer service lady who promptly started babbling and asking if it was our dog. Of course we said no and then, very eloquently she asked if anyone had a….a….(all the while pointing to her eyes) and a man saved her from her humiliating mumbling and pointing at her eyes act by telling her no one was blind in the vicinity. And that’s the last we saw of the dog that day. I love that dog….From there we went down to the special John Lennon exhibit which was basically a lot of pictures of him looking like he hadn’t shaved in several millennia and laying in bed with Yoko. The only interesting part was that they recreated the room where they had the bed-in for peace (not very well I might add) and there was a phone next to the bed which, if you picked up the receiver and dialed a number, played clips of John or Yoko or other people who worked with them saying things…I really don’t remember what, just stuff about peace and all that jazz. Next we went to the main exhibit which I have to admit was awesomely cool. They had rooms for each year in the 60’s complete with a short film about that year (my favorite was 1964) They also had a hippie bus which was totally tie-dye painted on the outside and was an actual bus with seats and a wheel and everything inside. There was also a video in there. Then we proceeded to the Aquarian Theater (the Age of Aquarius, the Age of…what? it’s from Hair!) where we sat on bean bags and watched yet another video. After that we went into ANOTHER film where the room was set up as an actual movie theater. There was another part of the exhibit after that but it was boring so I didn’t really pay attention to it. Then we had to walk 500 miles to the Woodstock “monument” which turned out to be just a plaque which said “This is the original site of the Woodstock music and arts fair held on Aug. 15, 16, and 17, 1969” WOW like we didn’t know THAT already captain obvious. And to think I walked 5,000 miles to see this…then we went and ate at T.G.I. Fridays. The End. Oh but before that we rolled down this GIANT hill that led to where the stage was which was frightening/really fricken awesome. Ok now I’m done.

Things to come

posted 2 years ago

As I wait for Woodstock on Saturday, I thought I would take this opputunity to write about my nearest trans-atlantic trip. From March 28-April 12 2010 my family and I will be traveling to England, Scotland, and France. This is very exciting for me escpecially because I have never been to anywhere but Ireland and I can’t wait to see what the rest of Europe is like. In England we are, of course, going to London with side trips to Stonehenge, Nottinghamshire to see Sherwood Forest and Liverpool for everything Beatles. (Did you know that Strawberry Fields was an orphanage? Well neither did I) Then we are taking a train from Kings Cross Station to Edinburgh, Scotland which will be our base. In Scotland we’ll be taking trips to Glasgow as well as Lough Ness (of course), the castle they used for Robin Hood Prince of Theives and Hogwarts, and the castle used in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Then we will take the train back to England where we will depart for the Chunnel shuttle which will take us to Calais, France. From there we will be traveling to Omaha Beach and other spots in Normandy on our way to Paris. I think we have it planned to spend a week in Paris, seeing all the sights and whatnot. From there we go either to Tours or Nice, we haven’t decided yet. Tours for all the beautiful chateaux or Nice for the beautiful Meditteranian sea. I can’t wait!

Getting ready for Woodstock
